 MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIRMAN

Overwhelming scale !
No. 1 trade show in the food machinery industry !
Come and enjoy the benefits of FOOMA JAPAN !

The Japan Food Machinery Manufacturers' Association will hold "FOOMA JAPAN 2006 (International Food Machinery & Technology Exhibition)", the leading trade show in the food machinery industry, for four days from June 6 through June 9, 2006, using the entire space of the East Exhibition Hall of Tokyo Big Sight. Since its inception in 1978, FOOMA JAPAN has been dealing with not only food manufacturing and processing machinery, but also all other kinds of machinery that are vital for food manufacturing process, including equipment for raw material processing, hygienic management, quality control, packaging, delivery, measurement and inspection. It has now developed into the machinery and technology exhibition where the latest products, services, and information will all converge. This year will see the 29th FOOMA JAPAN.

FOOM JAPAN in 2005 received 589 companies as participants, and the number of the booths exceeded the 2500 mark. Behind this success may be the food industry's fresh efforts to work on the issues of replacement of facilities, safety and health and distribution systems, which contributed to the increased number of exhibits and the expanded scale of system exhibitions. Furthermore, an increasing number of companies from various fields utilize this trade show every year as the place where new businesses will meet. We are confident that this trend will continue to grow stronger in years to come.

On the other hand, among the current topics about "eating", dissemination of "education through food" has been drawing public attention again in recent years. The Japanese government has also advocated its guiding principle that each one of the nation should deepen their understanding of food and diet. Because of these recent developments, consumers and the government would pay more attention than ever to the trends of the food industry.

Under these circumstances, the theme of FOOMA JAPAN of this year is "Brilliance of Technologies and Winds toward the Future - Exciting Collaboration of Food and Technologies". We, in the food machinery industry, must not only pursue "safety and security" but also provide users with effective solutions to a variety of complex issues such as "improvement of sanitation", "environmental consciousness", "cost reduction", and "more efficient operation". We hope that this trade show will be inundated with brilliant, state-of-art technologies that would respond to these challenges, and help realize a safe and secure environment for the future.

We will concentrate our efforts on elaborate preparations for FOOMA JAPAN 2006, which is going to reach the milestone of the 30th anniversary very soon, so that it will become a "major base for information exchange" where active business discussions and information exchange will take place, and that it will set the excellent business stage for the food machinery industry to achieve a remarkable growth in the future. We will also try to be as ingenious as possible to make this trade show even more attractive.

We would appreciate your understanding of the purposes of "FOOMA JAPAN 2006 (International Food Machinery & Technology Exhibition" and welcome your active participation.
